It explains how driveways, aprons, parking lots and base repairs should be built for local soils and weather, publishes sourced price ranges, and forwards quote requests to independent local contractors who do the work. The site does not employ crews, set contractor prices or perform any paving.

Sources are named on every page and collected on the paving data page: the airport station's 1991-2020 climate normals from NOAA, the City of Madison's standard specifications and permit pages, the Wisconsin Asphalt Pavement Association's design guide, USDA soil series descriptions, the Census Bureau, and the permit documents of Monona, Stoughton and Cottage Grove. When a figure could not be confirmed from a source, it was left out.
